The White Field Explorer Unit
We provide a wide variety of activities to young people aged 14 to 18 years, giving them challenge, adventure and fun.
The Explorer Scout programme is based around three challenge areas - see programme section. It encourages young people to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both home and abroad; adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and off shore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all.
We meet on a Wednesday evening, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, however, this can change depending on the programme we have planned and whether or not we will be in the hall or away for the evening.
Explorer Scouts is open to young people who are between 14-18 years.
Unlike our younger sections, Explorer Scouts are run by the District and may be partnered to a Scout Group to handle finances, venue, equipment, etc. As they are not formally part of a Scout Group, they run as a district units called an Explorer Scout Unit (ESU).
Each Explorer Scout Unit has its own local programme, and are led by the Explorer Scout membership under the supervision of Explorer Scout Leaders. These units are then managed by appointed District Explorer Scout Commissioner or DESC.
When your son / daughter turns 18 years old, they cease to be an explorer scout or young person in Scouting on the exact date of thier 18th Birthday. To help your son / daughter continue their scouting journey, the leadership team will sit down with your son / daughter and parent / guardian and discuss options for the future.
