Adult volunteers are at the heart of Scouting, and we hope that you will get every bit as much out of it as you put in. Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of adults within the Movement.
To support adults in Scouting, the Association provides a comprehensive programme of training to build on existing skills and knowledge and develop new competencies. Some elements of training can count towards externally-recognised qualifications, and within the movement there are also awards to recognise dedication to training and outstanding service.
All leaders are required to complete Modules 1 & 3 within 5 months of going for Appointments Advisory Interview and the issue of the Provisional Appointment, once this is fulfilled then a Full Appointment will be issued and the remaining modules should be completed within the first 3 years.
Following the award of a Wood Badge, the Leader must complete a minimum of five hours Ongoing learning per year, averaged over the length of the appointment.
All adults with full appointments must have an up to date First Aid Certificate (a minimum of First Response) at the time of appointment renewal. Adults are encouraged to maintain a First Aid Certificate at all times.

Although the completion of the Young Leaders’ Scheme cannot be used as automatic validation for any module, it should be acknowledged and taken into consideration when agreeing the personal learning plan.
